Hi, I'm Alexis Dover,

a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) at Arise Counseling and Consulting. For the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of working as an elementary school counselor, supporting children, adolescents, and families as they navigate the ups and downs of everyday life. Through this work, I’ve developed a deep passion for helping people feel understood, supported, and empowered as they grow.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. I believe meaningful change happens when individuals feel safe, seen, and valued. I strive to create a welcoming space where clients can explore their experiences, build confidence, and move toward lasting growth.

My hope for every family is that you feel comfortable coming as you are, leave sessions feeling safe, confident, and empowered, and over time, grow stronger and more connected together. Whether you’re seeking counseling for your child or support for your family as a whole, I look forward to partnering with you to create meaningful, change.

Children and Families

I specialize in working with children as young as four, teens, and families experiencing life transitions, anxiety, self-esteem challenges, behavioral concerns, and family-related stressors. I understand that emotions can feel big, messy, and sometimes overwhelming—for both kids and the adults who care for them.

My goal is to help children learn how to understand, express, and regulate their emotions in healthy ways, making daily life feel more manageable and connected. I use a combination of child-centered play therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, always adapting my approach to meet each child’s developmental and emotional needs.

I also take a whole-family approach to care, working closely with parents and caregivers to strengthen communication, deepen understanding, and create a home environment where each family member feels heard and supported. Together, we build practical tools that extend beyond the therapy room.

My Education and Background

I earned a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Nicholls State University and bring a strong foundation of experience in both education and community-based support work. Prior to becoming a counselor, I supported high-needs families as a case worker, as well as an elementary school counselor. Through these roles, I gained firsthand experience working alongside children and caregivers in a variety of settings, helping to navigate complex emotional, behavioral, and environmental challenges.

This work fostered a deep appreciation for the interconnected nature of family dynamics and ultimately shaped my passion for supporting the entire family system, rather than focusing solely on the individual. As a PLPC, I am currently practicing under the board-approved supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor (LPC-S), as I continue advancing my clinical training and professional development for licensure.
