EMDR Therapy
Find healing beyond talk therapy
Sometimes painful experiences continue to affect us long after the moment has passed. You may find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally reactive, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or constantly on alert — even when you want to move forward.
At Arise Counseling, we use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help individuals process and heal from distressing experiences in a safe, supportive, and effective way.
EMDR helps the brain and nervous system heal from experiences that may feel “stuck,” allowing you to respond to life from a place of greater calm, clarity, and connection.

What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR therapy is an evidence-based approach designed to help the brain reprocess traumatic or distressing experiences so they no longer feel as emotionally overwhelming in the present.
Rather than simply talking about the problem, EMDR works with the brain and nervous system to help resolve the emotional distress connected to difficult memories, experiences, beliefs, and body sensations.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones — while guided by a trained therapist to support the brain’s natural healing process.
Many clients experience:
-
Reduced emotional distress
-
Less anxiety and overwhelm
-
Improved emotional regulation
-
Increased self-confidence
-
Greater sense of safety and calm
-
Freedom from old patterns and triggers
What can EMDR help with?
EMDR therapy can be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including:
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Childhood wounds and attachment trauma
-
Anxiety and panic attacks
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Burnout and chronic stress
-
Grief and loss
-
Negative self-beliefs
-
Life transitions
-
Medical trauma
-
Relationship wounds
-
Phobias and fears
-
Performance anxiety
-
Disturbing memories or intrusive thoughts
You do not have to experience a major traumatic event to benefit from EMDR. Many people seek EMDR therapy for ongoing stress, painful life experiences, or patterns that continue to impact their relationships, emotions, or sense of self.
Our Approach to EMDR
At Arise Counseling, we approach EMDR through a trauma-informed, relational, and nervous-system-focused lens.
We believe healing happens best in the context of safety and connection. EMDR is not about forcing clients to relive painful experiences. We move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable while helping build the internal resources needed for healing.
Our therapists integrate:
-
Nervous system regulation
-
Attachment-focused care
-
Parts work when appropriate
-
Grounding and resourcing skills
-
Compassionate, collaborative support
Our goal is not simply symptom reduction, but deeper healing, resilience, and lasting change.
What to expect with EMDR therapy
EMDR therapy begins with building safety, understanding your history, and developing coping and regulation skills before processing difficult experiences.
During EMDR sessions, your therapist will guide you through structured phases designed to help the brain process experiences in a more adaptive and healing way.
Clients often describe feeling:
-
Lighter
-
Less emotionally reactive
-
More grounded
-
More connected to themselves
-
Better able to respond instead of react
Every person’s healing journey is unique, and therapy is tailored to your individual needs and goals.
